Hamburg Helmet was selected in 1900 from some crossbreeds between Old Coloured Hamburg Helmet and pearl eyes doves. Hamburg Helmet has a solid appearance and a lively and delicate bearing. Its name comes from the upper head coloring that it is like an helmet. Within Allevamento Poggio di Ponte, Hamburg Helmet is in the white variety with black head.
MAIN FEATURES OF THE BREED
Head: Rounded, forehead is also very curved. It can be totally smooth or it can has a rounded and close-fitting tuft.
Eyes: Iris has a pearl color. Contours are thin and their color can vary from white to pale red.
Beak: Short and closed, it varies from a flesh tone to a soft horn color and it forms an obtuse angle with forehead.
Breast: Rounded and prominent.
Back: Slightly inclined and short.
Wings: They rest on the tail and are close-fitting to the body.
Tail: Long and closed.
Paws: Short with no plumed feet.
Plumage: Smooth and well close-fitting to the body. Feathers are not so long.
Coat: White, black, red, yellow, blue, blue-silver and “isabella”.
