Bouvreuil is hailing from Dalmatia or from Illyria. The copper variety which has black wings was chosen in England (where it is called Archangel), whereas other color varieties were created and refined in Germany. Bouvreuil is similar to a solid country dove in its appearance, even if its physique is slimmer and more elegant. The nature is intense. Within Allevamento Poggio di Ponte, there are 2 different varieties of Bouvreuil: golden with black shoulders and copper with black shoulders.
MAIN FEATURES OF THE BREED
Head: Long and close with quite flat forehead, it can have a sharp tuft or it can be totally smooth.
Eyes: Contours are little bit developed, slightly red. Iris is orange.
Beak: Medium length. In black wings subjects, beak’s color can vary from soft to dark horn.
Breast: Moderately large and slightly prominent.
Back: Slightly inclined.
Wings: Moderately long, they are very closed and close-fitting to the body.
Tail: It continues the back line and it is closed and slightly inclined.
Paws: Without feathers, medium length.
Plumage: Well close-fitting and developed.
Coat: There are 2 different varieties. The first is golden mutation, with green shoulder whereas the other is copper mutation with green/white/blue shoulder.
